Respecting kids

I had a neat encounter tonight. Holden (7) and I were on WoW (World of Warcraft) and I got to help him with a few things for his Human Paladin (level 38). We had to ask our guild leader for help. And since we have headsets and mics we all got to talk. There were several other guild members. They bent over backward to help Holden with a few things; although, I can't say I would have been as kind. It was late and they were busy helping adults. But in this game it seems even kids matter. But since he also has a level 70 something Death Knight, they have all run many dungeons with Holden's help. It is a game where no matter what your age, you can add something to it. They all get a kick out of him. I got some compliments from one of the guild members on him. They think the world of Holden and Cliff, who also plays with this guild. He has an 80 Death Knight. Holden got what he needed help with and we got to all duel outside the gates of Iron Forge. It was a lot of fun, even if we never made it to the dungeon they wanted us to go to with them. At 1:30 Holden and I went to bed. Well, I am on my way there. It was a neat end to the day. It helped me to see why Cliff likes this guild so much, and why he enjoys having Holden with him on quests with the guild. Any dad would be proud. I know I'm a proud mama. Holden is not afraid to ask adults for help and state clearly what he wants help with. He has confidence, but he is not arrogant about it.

There was something Holden did not understand and they answered him until he did understand. He wanted some of his equipment enchanted. And if you don't play the game, you won't know what that means. But it was something that Holden picked up on from his dad, who is an enchanter on WoW. They couldn't enchant a certain piece tonight, but said they would do it tomorrow when they had all the ingredients to do it. Holden can be very persistant. He needed something from the guild bank too. It was one of those nights where he had it in his mind to accomplish something. He asked for help from me, his dad, guild, and did not give up until his mission was complete. I wish I could have had his courage and wisdom when I was 7. I can't say I have it at 36.

There is something to be said about respecting children. Once you take their inner fire, spirit or self confidence away, they are never the same. I wish I could be 100% respectful and giving with my kids. I can say I try to be that way for the most part; so 90-95% maybe. But there are times when I have to take care of other business and I can get grumpy. I feel I have been given such a neat opportunity to be a parent. There are some days that I take that for granted and feel weighed down. But right now I feel like I am in the zone.

I hope I can stay in the zone tomorrow. I'm so happy to be a mom right now that I could talk and write about it all night long!!! I'm going to try to get some sleep though. I am posting this and will edit it tomorrow. Please excuse all the typos. I just want to share my excitement right now.

Happy day to all!

Isn't it wonderful the hidden treasures that this game brings? :)
We've had so many great times over WoW. Very cool reading of your adventures.

We have been looking into trying the game. Can I talk privately with you about it? I have some questions about what I need to start and keep going. I'm a little confused.

We've had a lot of frustrating times, but overall it has been a real fun ride. I think if we would have waited until our boys were a little older it would have been less frustrating. But then I think we would have missed out on a lot too. They are much smarter than I realized! It has given us all a common hobby. Plus it built an even larger bond between Cliff and Holden.

I'm glad people are interested and reading.
