Homemade fire pit and monarch 'pillar
For a month or so now, Cliff and I have been talking about buying a metal fire pit or making a homemade one. This weekend we (I) finally got sick of all the sticks and logs laying around for our fire pit. So, we asked a neighbor who was tossing some concrete pieces out if we could take the pieces off his hands. He was grateful to give it to us.
This weekend we roasted marshmallows and cooked dinner in the pit. We can have a burn pit in our area as long as it is recreational and to cook food in. We can't burn leaves or yard waste. So we made sure to throw logs into the fire and use the dead sticks to keep it going. We had a lot of fun making it and enjoying the fire this weekend. Not one person complained about our fire or the small amounts of smoke it made at times.
You can see our tomato plants off to the left of the fire pit. We have two plants that are producing gobs. We can't wait to taste them! They will be ready by next week.
Holden and his buddies found a monarch butterfly caterpillar and also a tiger swallow tail butterfly. It is so nice to be outside these days! I can feel summer slowly sliding into fall. This is a lovely time of year here in Iowa.
