Library fun and school tour

Yesterday we went to the library for story time. It was fun. Camden was overwhelmed by the 20 plus young ones, so he and I went in and out of story time a few times. They played with musical instruments for toddlers and also did an activity with a one of those big, parachute thing a-ma jiggers. The librarian was fun and they had large beach balls to boing off of the parachute. Afterward they all picked out musical instruments and went around the room in a long procession pretending to be in a marching band. A woman who used to live near me came over to talk during the parade. It was quite humorous to catch up with her during such a lively moment! One thing that made me feel somewhat curious all day was that I decided to wear a black, long sleeve shirt I painted designs on last year. The neckline is painted with red lettering, with red and glittery, black sunshine lines. Between the red ray lines are the letters: s u n s c h o o l e r s. Covering the entire back is a huge red sun with squiggly red and black ray lines. In the middle of the sun are the painted words: The Endless Summer. I got some interesting looks from the moms trying to figure me out.

After we left story time we checked out some books for the boys. I picked up a book for myself which I am finding quite fascinating so far: "Walden" by Thoreau. I was inspired to learn more about him from a children's book I read the kids which was somewhat based on his naturalistic approach to life. There is a children's series about Henry which is quite fascinating (see my link above).

Next we went to the park by the library along with several other moms and toddlers. About 15 minutes later we left to go eat lunch. After stopping for lunch we headed toward home and we passed an elementary school by our neighborhood that some of our neighbor kids attend. Over the past month Holden has asked about visiting one of his friends' school with me to see what a school is like inside. We had driven past this school and another one and talked about going inside "one day." Well, yesterday was the day it happened!

When we pulled into the parking lot Camden asked what we were doing because he missed the part of the conversation Holden and I had about going in. So, I teased and told him I was taking him to school. He cried out: "No!" That shocked me because he tells me all the time he is going to school. I told him why, I thought you wanted to go to school? He said: "Not ever!" It was so funny and such a nice surprise for me. Holden is certain he doesn't want to go to school anytime in the near future. That is nothing new for Holden. He just wanted to look around to see where his friends live all day.

We all went into the school and asked to have a look around. Everyone was really nice. The secretary found a counselor to give us a tour. During the tour I asked a few questions like how long is lunch? She replied 20 minutes. I asked her about recess and she said 20 minutes once a day. She never mentioned P.E., so I am assuming that is not everyday. We saw a few kids we knew sitting in class looking somewhat bored.

After lunch got out 5 or so boys came up to the counselor we were with and told her about a situation that happened at lunch between two boys. A boy had some sort of problem with another boy putting unwanted food items into portions of his food. My boys got to witness all this plus the mob of kids in the lunch room, and them quickly walking out to get back to class. It did not look fun or interesting. The lunch room was more like a gym that doubled as the lunch room, and it had no windows. The school library was small and had no windows to see outside, but it did have a fish aquarium with four large fish.

Holden still wants to go to the other school to have a look around. But he hasn't mentioned it today. I wonder if Camden will ever say he is going to school again? Before when he mentioned it, I always told him he can if wants to.

Today we have friends coming over to play, and then who knows what this weekend??? Happy weekend all!!!
