One thing I love about being a mother is instilling the belief in my kids that they can do and be anything they want. I try to nurture their natural talents and desires. Of course our environment and my own knowledge and interests sometimes comes into play. I try to be non-judgemental and open to their wishes. I know very little about horses or airplanes, but lately those are two passions my boys have wanted to learn more about and persue.
When Camden wants to read about airplanes he points to them and tries to pull them out of the book. He begs to ride in one and fly one. He has several airplane toys. He has a very wonderful and pure imigination. He spents a lot of time pretending to fly his airplanes. We watch movies with airplanes in them as well.
Holden wants a horse for Christmas. This is not something I have planted into his head. He has his own mind and ideas. I promised him I will get him around horses as much as possible. I bought him some horse toys and we have been watching "Spirit: Stallion of Cimmiron" this week. It's one of the most interesting horse movies we've seen. I can sit and watch it over and over again. Matt Damon is Spirit's voice. It's about a wild mustang who is recalling his days during the westward movement of men in the U.S. and his struggle to remain wild and free. Bryan Adam's has many moving songs throughout the movie. In one part of the movie after Spirit (who can not be broken) is born he nurses on his mama. Afterward he grins at her with a big milk smile. Priceless. There are some really touching and funny parts to the movie and a love story on top of it. I love the theme of freedom and the point of view of a wild horse.
I am hopeful to keep nurturing their wishes and dreams. I know it's a gift no amount of money can ever buy.
