The wedding ring saga
Over the summer I lost my wedding ring. I have lost it before over the 18 years I have had it, so I wasn't too worried. Sooner or later it would resurface. So October rolled around and no ring. It felt odd to be without it for so long. I pined for it. I talked about where it could be. I even went so far as to think a sticky fingered kid took it. What else was I to think?
One lovely fall day we were at park day in Des Moines with friends. After park day I took our two boys and two of their friends over to the nearby lake to look for toads. I waited in the car on high alert while they explored for toads within my sight. I was pretty beat that day. About 15 minutes later Camden (almost 5) came rushing up to me, sweet face beaming, with an antique looking ring in his adorable little hand. He held it up to me and announced that he found me a wedding ring. It was a source of much joy for us both. I wore it proudly and told people about it when they asked me about the ring. Everyone thought it was a neat story.
Well, the story doesn't end there. I found out a few weeks ago that Cliff found my wedding ring when he was sweeping under a book shelf. He had looked there before. This time he moved the shelf way out and there it was. He didn't tell me about it then. He was going to wrap it up and give it to me for Christmas. The only thing is he got so busy with school and finals that he forgot to bring it with us to Texas. He hid it somewhere from me.
So when we get home I will have two rings to wear. I will wear them both with pride and fond memories. When Camden asks me if I love the ring, I always say yes. And I do! Not because it is expensive looking (it is not). I love it just because he felt safe to give it to me. He knew it would make my day. And it did! I am not a materialistic person and I don't treasure things for their material worth. I am so grateful for all the beautiful experiences in life. This is one them for sure.
