Fun filled day inside

We're fully recovered from yesterday and today turned out way better! This morning we mailed a box of stuff to Cliff for his birthday this week. When we came home I asked the boys if they wanted to ride their bikes. After about 5 minutes they decided it was too windy. I asked Holden if he wanted to make a fire with me because I was cold! His face lit up! So, we made a fire in our wood burning stove in the basement. We enjoyed it for several hours. The kids were so content and happy that we stayed in the basement most of the afternoon. We read books and kept the fire going. We did all sorts of melting experiments with the fire and even cooked a pot of tea on the wood burner. I managed to start some laundry and clean the basement windows. Once the kids' friends came home from school in the afternoon the fun just kept on coming. We re-stoked the fire, did more experiments, and made popcorn. Soon it was dark and two of their friends' dad came to collect his boys as usual. He told me our house is their favorite place to come, and asked his boys to say thanks for letting them play at our house again. Later Camden fell asleep on the couch (with a Matchbox car in each hand. LOL) and Holden went across the street to a friend's house to play.

A couple of funny things I want to remember: Camden got hot this afternoon in the basement and for the rest of the 5 or so hours he was awake he was naked! It was quite a scene and his friends got used to it. I supported his decision to be naked once I realized he REALLY wanted to be naked. I tried to put his clothes back on, but he insisted he was fine. I managed to get him somewhat clothed before he passed out on the couch. I didn't want him to get cold tonight.

Tomorrow will be a whole new adventure and I feel so lucky to be a mom today! We have friends coming over after lunch tomorrow, and also my sister-in-law called me tonight to tell me her kids have lice. I felt horrible for her. She wanted to see if my kids had lice and to get me to check them just in case they got it from her kids last week. She was very distraught. She has to miss work tomorrow and her kids can't go to school until 24 hours after treatment. The bad part is she doesn't know whether they got it at school or day care, and she is frustrated. She has had to miss work a lot lately for illnesses and other problems. I really do appreciate how lucky I am, and I am so sorry some moms have to juggle and work so hard. I did check myself and my kids and we don't have lice and I hope we don't get it! What a nightmare!

Also, on the way to the post office today the kids and I drove the route of our biking adventure yesterday. I found the bike trail we were looking for yesterday. It was only about half a mile north of where we turned to go east! I estimated that we went about 6 miles todal yesterday. Four miles of it was on bike and the rest was walking up hills or through corn stalks and high grasses. Hopefully nothing like that will ever happen again and I will plan better.

That's all for now! I am going to savor a few more minutes of quiet time. Ahhhhhh. I love boy noise, but I love quiet, too.

We are so lucky as unschoolers to just move along with the ebb and flow of life. Sounds like an absolutely wonderful afternoon!
