The cool stuff

It was a very busy week. But many fun things happened. On Wednesday I finished a really long book I was reading for a book club. I burned the midnight oil to get it read and I was so relieved to finish it. On Friday the boys and I joined a group of friends and kids at the Neal Smith Wildlife Preserve in Prairie City, Iowa. It is only about 45 minutes away. We did a service project. It was a gorgeous day. It was a busy morning with that but a lot of fun to see some friends I hadn't seen in awhile. On Friday night Cliff and I went out on a date and had a lot of fun. On Saturday we went to a graduation party and then our family headed out of town to visit some friends for a barbecue.

A really cool thing happened at the barbecue after I ate! It was a lovely night and I was a little stressed because we had been so busy that day (and week) that Holden had a meltdown on the way out of town. So after I ate I decided to go on a walk by myself. On my walk I noticed a bicycle trailer (a nice one) sitting by a driveway. It was stacked on top of 2 decent looking twin mattresses and a box spring. All of the items had signs taped to them with blue painter's tape. Once I got closer I was able to read the signs: "FREE." I knocked on the door and no one answered. So I hauled the trailer away! It is in beautiful shape and looks only a few years old with nice tires and will work great for windy days too since it has a sturdy plastic rain guard that zips down, if needed. Needless to say those of you who know I have been wanting one know how thrilled I am! The first thing I did this morning was hitched it up and took it for a test run! Then I took Camden on a ride in it. I'll be sure to get a picture of me on my bike with the trailer. I am a happy mommy and Camden likes being in it as well! Tomorrow we will head to a bike trail nearby. It is just nice to ride around the neighborhood too. We did that today a few times and Camden giggled on the downhills. Thank you to people who give things away!!!

Holden found a snake while fishing with Cliff today!! We are in the process of finding out what type it is. We released it an hour after it was found. We don't have poisonous snakes here so that is nice.

I am off to bed for some much needed sleep! Peace and joy to all!!!

If you haven't found out what type of snake it is yet, it looks like a Texas Rat Snake, I can't be for sure without actually seeing the snake, but seeing the underbelly checkerboard color of the scales is a good sign of a Rat Snake. I use to own a 4 1/2 foot long Texas Red Rat Snake that had a black and white checkerboard belly.
