Winter time gatherings for central Iowa

I'm going to set up a monthly gathering during the winter time for anyone wishing to hang out with other unschoolers of all degrees to: talk, play Legos, bring your blocks--or games from home, bring your laptop and play computer games, wifi compatible laptop folks can play WoW, Roblox, etc. I made a poll to get an idea of what day may work. I called two libraries and Thursday afternoon won't work. So I am trying to get an idea of what may work for others.

I'm also hoping to take my guys skating or ice skating a few times this winter. Is anyone interested in joining us? I can call to see about a discount for groups.

Please answer the poll in the sidebar to the right, if you want to have a say in the day or location.

Thursdays. That's the day we've arranged to always drive into town for everything. Lil is starting art lessons on Thursdays now too.

What about a coffee shop? http://www.cupokryptonite.com/?page_id=3

I love your Einstein quote. I think I will adopt it. Ruby in Ankeny

MP, I just want to meet someplace kid friendly. It doesn't have to be at a library. Maybe we should do a test run at the coffee shop and see how it goes? Like sometime when it is too cold to be at the park?

I called the coffee shop and they said it is kid friendly. I just don't know the space. I haven't been there.

Ruby,
Glad you like the quote. I like it too. I just don't like the word pupil in reference to my kids. But otherwise, I love it!

Very kid friendly. Computer friendly. Yummy coffee. Comic books. Superman theme. Comfy chairs. Solid tables. I mean, probably not kids running like maniacs friendly, but I bet on a Thursday afternoon they'd welcome our band of hooligans. Friends of mine own the place. ;)

MP, Let's try it out sometime in November when the weather is nasty? I am game to try anything once. I personally love Superman themes. I'm hoping to bring our Legos (with hopes that we come home with most of our Legos. lol) and laptop in case Holden wants to play a computer game. He likes to play computer games with friends (or alone). I am on Fleur about once a week, so I'll pop in there sometime.

We should have a few days (or a day) notice on the weather to invite others.

I'll ask them about the Legos idea before I bring them.
