More horsing around

You wouldn't believe the first words I heard this morning before my eyes opened: "Mommy can we go pets some horses?" So that is just we did on one of the most perfect fall days I can remember! We woke up to lots of sun and tomorrow is supposed to be another wonderful day as well. Rain and colder weather is moving in on Friday. The only reason we're home now is because Camden is taking a nap. We were at the local park after we went to see the brood horses and noticed the kids were out of school. We hurried home to be here for the little boy we watch after school. So now we're parked for a bit. Holden is playing with his schooled friends and some are complaining of being hot! LOL.

On Friday we're going to an indoor equestrian center so Holden can ride a pony. They have half hour pony rides for ages 4 to 8 for only $10! Holden is so excited!! We picked up some books about horses at the library. I never imagined this is what we'd be doing this week. His horse fascination all started last week after watching a few random movies from the library with horses in them. One was "Misty" and another was "Black Beauty." Then yesterday just for the heck of it since it was so nice we drove by some horses and he insisted we get out to look at them. He is hooked. Most of the brood horses are skittish but a few of them really took to Holden. Of course he feeds them grass like it's no big deal and they let him pet them on the head. I on the other hand am skittish and a little fearful of horses. I admire Holden's calmness toward these giant creatures.

We thought we'd surprise the horses with some apple slices and celery. They surprised us and didn't want it. LOL. Grass was the only thing they wanted. We pulled grass outside their gate. Some of the horses fought over it. I smelled the grass and it was sweet. Holden smelled grass for the first time today; besides when it is mowed and the smell of the mower overpowers it.

I don't know where this is leading, but the journey is mighty nice. It's just what we needed after losing our doggie, Shadow on Sunday.

How wonderful Heather! We missed you guys at the park today but it sounds like you were having a perfectly beautiful time of it anyway! So cool!
